Who are we kidding?
When I first gave MY LIFE to Christ????
JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE TO ME! I was fortunate enough to learn that fact and receive His incredible gift! (But I digress)
Anyhoo, after becoming a Christian, I thought the Bible was a religious book for spiritual development.
It never occurred to me that it had any relevance to my professional life other than moral instructions like honesty, diligence, etc.
Boy… Was I missing the boat!
The Bible of course tells of the fall of man and the incredible redemption made possible through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Nothing could be more important!
But it is also jam packed with practical wisdom, brilliant strategies and creative techniques that when applied to sales and business can quite literally help you multiply your sales results!
Here’s why so many miss this…
It’s because they’re only looking at the surface story. The Hebrew mindset recognized at least 4 levels of understanding from any Scripture.
Paul mentioned those 4 levels in Ephesians 3:17-18 (“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;”)
It is important you understand these if you want to go beyond mere surface meanings. Here they are…
- P’shat = The literal, surface meaning or “Breadth” of understanding.
- Remez = The parable / allegory level or “Length” of understanding.
- D’rash = The mystery / enigmatic level or “Depth” of understanding.
- Sod = The spiritual plane or “Height” of understanding. (meaning “secret,” or mystical interpretation) (“The SECRET of the Lord is with them that fear Him”. Ps 25:15)
So many of the “secrets” of God are hidden in His word, much like seeds are hidden inside the fruit. Most people eat the fruit and spit out the seeds, but it’s the seeds that contain their future.
