Third Commandment: Honor Paves The Way

The third commandment God gave to Moses was, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” As I shared previously, this goes far beyond refraining from profanity. In fact, this commandment protects our legitimate need for HONOR. We dishonor God when we apply His name to our vision instead of applying ourselves to His vision.

We all have the need for HONOR…

But how can you, in business, honor your customers in a legitimate way that extends God’s honor to them through you? You can start by avoiding the practice of dishonoring them.

For example, you are dishonoring someone, when you keep telling him how much he needs what you have and how much better off he will be with your product or service, while all you can think of is the commission you will earn from the sale.  When you do that, you are really thinking of yourself first and pretending to put them first. That is dishonoring, they can usually detect it and will offer resistance.

Honor your customers by listening to their needs, discovering their pain and putting yourself in their shoes. If you still feel that what you have to offer is in their best interest, you honor them by serving them your product and the income you earn is merely a healthy byproduct of a job well done.
