I want to introduce you to a friend of mine, Daniel Maldonado. He has a great blog (www.breathelivemove.com) where I recently found this very inspiring post. I asked him if we could share it with you. Being a big supporter of our blog, he happily agreed. Here’s Danny…
There’s a great scene from the movie Facing the Giants, in which coach Grant Taylor tells a key player, Brock Kelley, to do the “death crawl” while carrying another player on his back. But there was a catch… He had to do it blindfolded, and the only direction he would receive was from the audible voice of the coach. It’s an inspiring scene because in so many ways, it’s a picture of our lives. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling blindfolded, even lost, with extra weight over us we can feel but not see, and the only way forward is crawling. The perfect storm for a quitter.
We’ve all had moments that make us question everything. Seasons when our sight is clouded, blurred, darkened and we feel we have no direction whatsoever. Times when that extra weight on our backs demands from us, seemingly every second, that we quit! It’s in moments like these when we can appreciate the coach Taylor’s in the world. The voices that push us harder and inspire us to keep moving forward, even when we can’t see and are not sure where we’re going. Voices that lead us to the end zone, and help us understand and believe that we can do more, be more, achieve more. Voices that refuse to accept a “no” for an answer, and will expect the best of us, no matter what we say or how much we protest.
We all go through times when we need voices like these. Firm, strong voices that know and acknowledge the pain and the struggle we are in, but in spite of them, they motivate, inspire and push us beyond what we thought possible and in to the end zone. You can be the coach Taylor to the Brock Kelley’s in your life. Or maybe you feel like Brock and want to give up. I know, I’ve been both. Just as Brock says, “its hard”, the coach replies, “I know its hard, but you can do it”. And louder and louder he shouts on, “Don’t quit, Don’t Quit, Give me your very best!”.
The message rings out today… Don’t Quit! Of course its hard, and I know you can’t see the finish line, but trust the voice that tells you, “Don’t Quit”. Don’t quit on your spouse. Don’t quit on your family; It is hard, but you have to give your very best!, Don’t quit on your God given passion; It will be beyond frustrating at times, but always give your very best!, Don’t quit on your kids; they have incredible potential. Give them your very best. Don’t quit on God; He is the only true voice that can lead you to the end zone. Listen to that voice. It will both pull you and push you further, well beyond your self imposed limits, because He knows what He put in you and what you can truly become and do if you listen to His voice and do what He says.
I encourage you to follow His voice and push yourself hard. You will get to the end zone and everyone, even yourself, will be amazed of what you will achieve by God’s great grace. DON’T QUIT! Not now. Not ever. Amen!
